Please reach us at bark@boroughpaws.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We would love to be able to care for every dog, but the safety and well-being of our guests and staff is our top priority. We welcome friendly, social dogs who enjoy the company of other dogs and humans. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate dogs who show aggression, reactivity, or excessive barking, as these behaviors can create an unsafe or stressful environment for everyone. If you're unsure whether your pup would be a good fit, feel free to reach out—we're happy to discuss their temperament and schedule a trial daycare!
Yes, we require all dogs to be at least 4 months old to join us for daycare. In addition, they must be fully vaccinated to ensure the health and safety of all dogs in our care.
Starting your puppy in daycare at a young age is incredibly beneficial! It helps build confidence, social skills, and positive interactions with other dogs and people. Plus, it provides much-needed mental stimulation and playtime, helping to burn off that endless puppy energy in a safe and structured environment. Early socialization sets the foundation for a well-adjusted, happy pup!
To ensure the health and safety of all our furry guests, we kindly ask that pets be up to date on their required vaccinations, including Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, and Leptospirosis. Proof of vaccination is needed before your pup's first visit and can be conveniently sent to us at bark@boroughpaws.com. As part of our commitment to providing a safe environment, we are required by law to have a valid Rabies certificate on file for your dog(s) in order to offer daycare / boarding services. If we don’t have this documentation on record, we won’t be able to welcome your pup for daycare / boarding until it is provided. But no worries—it’s easy to send us a copy electronically at bark@boroughpaws.com!
A temperament test is our way of ensuring that your pup is comfortable, happy, and a great fit for our daycare and boarding environment. For their first visit, your dog can join us for either a half-day or full day of daycare so we can assess their comfort level and social skills. When you arrive, we’ll meet you in our lobby, take your pup, and walk them outside to our fenced-in play area. There, we’ll remove their leash and allow them to explore while slowly introducing them to a few of our furry friends. This gradual introduction helps us gauge their reactions and ensures a positive experience. We highly recommend a full day daycare for their first visit, as it gives them ample time to settle in, build confidence, and show us their true personality. Our goal is to create a fun, safe, and stress-free environment for all dogs in our care!
If your dog isn’t a good fit for our daycare or boarding environment, don’t worry—we understand that every pup is unique! If we notice signs of stress, discomfort, reactivity, or inappropriate social behavior during their temperament test, we’ll let you know right away.
Our goal is to provide a safe and positive experience for all dogs in our care, so if your pup isn’t thriving in a group setting, we will recommend alternative care options better suited to their needs. This could include private in-home pet sitting, alternate boarding facilities with individual care options, or training to help build confidence in social environments.
We understand that dogs, like people, can change over time. If your pup initially passes the temperament test but later begins exhibiting behaviors that compromise the safety or well-being of our staff or other dogs—such as aggression, excessive barking, or reactivity—we will address it right away. Our approach is to first communicate with you about any concerns and see if the behavior is situational or can be improved with adjustments, like extra breaks, a different playgroup, or training. However, if the behavior continues and becomes disruptive or unsafe, we may need to pause or discontinue daycare or boarding services. Our top priority is maintaining a safe and positive environment for all dogs in our care, and we appreciate your understanding and partnership in ensuring the best experience for everyone!
At Borough Paws, the safety and well-being of all dogs in our care is our top priority. To maintain a harmonious and stress-free environment, we require all dogs to be spayed or neutered by 9 months of age to participate in daycare. Unaltered dogs may experience challenges in a daycare setting, as their scent and hormones can make them stand out among the pack. This often leads to increased attention from other dogs, which can result in stress, discomfort, or even altercations. Additionally, intact males and females may exhibit behaviors that disrupt the balance of the group, making it harder to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us create a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for every pup in our care!
At our facility, we prioritize energy level and play style over size when grouping dogs. Rather than separating strictly by small or large breeds, we focus on matching dogs with similar temperaments and play preferences to ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone. Some small dogs love to romp with bigger friends, while some large dogs prefer a calmer playgroup. By grouping based on energy and personality, we create balanced playgroups where every pup can thrive and enjoy their time with us!
No, our playgroups are dynamic and change throughout the day based on each dog's energy level. Just like people, dogs have bursts of energy followed by moments when they need a break or a calmer play environment. As the day goes on and dogs start to tire, we adjust their groups to ensure they are always playing with others who match their current energy and mood. This helps prevent overstimulation, reduces stress, and ensures a fun and safe experience for every pup in our care!

While Borough Paws does not require your dog to be licensed, the state of Pennsylvania does. All dogs two months and older must have a valid license. Please be aware that the state dog warden conducts random inspections, and if your dog is found to be unlicensed while attending daycare or boarding, you may be personally fined. To avoid any issues, we strongly encourage you to ensure your pup is properly licensed before their stay with us. The good news is that registering your dog is quick, easy, and inexpensive!
